Skills Maintenance

With the 2019/20 patrolling season just around the corner it’s time to hop back into the water in preparation for this year’s requal. Requal is a chance to refresh all the knowledge that we’ve put to the back of our minds over winter and prepare ourselves for the coming season.

All active members must complete their requalification before January 1st to remain proficient.

This is to advise of our upcoming Skills Maintenance (SM) days at Warrnambool this year and all the requirements in regards to completing SM.

Please follow this document from start to finish. We suggest completing this process EARLY and preferably NOT the night before so that if you have problems with online membership or completing your SM requirements we can help you before the day and you won’t be held up at the end of the SM day.

The more members that prepare before the day the quicker it goes!!

Resuscitation (HLTAID001) upgrade course

For the first time this year we are offering to members to upgrade their Resuscitation (HLTAID001) course at the conclusion of SM.

If you would like to do this please enrol in the course. Please allow an extra 1.5 hours for this process (part of it will be completed during SM). We recommend you do this ONLY IF YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR FIRST AID CERTIFICATE (HTLAID003) CURRENT TO PATROL OR FOR WORK.

There are limited places for this course. It is a blended online and face to face course. You will need to complete the online component BEFORE the SM session you attend.

What do I bring?

Please bring the following to SM day with you:

  • Pink Vest for water work COMPULSORY – if you do not have one you can buy on the day from club apparel
  • Your bathers/wetsuit, goggles, swim cap
  • Marine Driver Licence (not just the number we want to see your mug shot) as it MUST be sighted before IRB driver assessment is carried out
  • Working with Children Check Card/receipt if recently completed (valid for 5 years)
  • Pen

What if I do SM at another club?

If you complete your SM at another Western club you MUST take your completed  SM card away with you and return it to the Chief Instructor at your home club. After the SM day take a picture of your SM card and text to

Jo McDowall Jo.McDowall@warrnamboolslsc.org.au

Then please return the original SM card to the return box outside the First Aid Room. This will ensure timely processing of your card.

Another reminder again PLEASE try and complete your membership and online SM requirements well before the SM day you wish to attend (and not the night before). It is much easier to help you if you have problems logging in etc and it makes SM day go quicker.

Club members will be there from 8am on the day of SM. If you need to buy a pink vest or have any questions about SM come at this time so we have a chance to help you before registration and SM commences.
